About OpenIdP

What is OpenIdP?

OpenIdP is a service that allows users to use IdP on a trial base, where the user's affiliated organization has not yet adopted the authentication system (IdP) that is necessary to join GakuNin. By accessing via OpenIdP, users are able to use part of the services that belong to GakuNin.

OpenIdP Term of Use

Article 1 (Application)

The purpose of this "OpenIdP Terms of Use" (hereinafter the "Terms") is to stipulate the conditions of the following services (hereinafter the "Services") provided by the National Institute of Informatics (hereinafter the "NII"):
  1. The NII issues an OpenIdP account
  2. When a user (hereinafter the "OpenIdP User") has been issued an OpenIdP account by the NII, according to the Terms, and logs-in to an OpenIdP-compliant third parties' website (hereinafter the "Third-party Site") by using the given ID, the NII authenticates the user and sends the authentication results to the Third-party Site concerned.

Article 2 (Change of the Terms)

The NII can change the Terms by giving OpenIdP Users notice at a given time in a prescribed method.

Article 3 (Registration Procedure)

  1. In order to use the Services, an OpenIdP User should agree with the Terms and register by providing the necessary information on the registration page designated by the NII. When a registered OpenIdP User uses the Services after registration, the OpenIdP User shall be deemed to have agreed with the Terms. The information, which has been registered according to this paragraph, shall be referred to as the "Registered Information" hereinafter.
  2. In the event that the Registered Information is proved to include false information, the NII may not approve the registration of the user as stated in the previous paragraph. Likewise, even after the completion of the registration, in the event that the Registration Information is proved to include false information, the NII can cancel such registration immediately.
  3. In the event that any change has arisen in the Registration Information, the customer, who has registered according to paragraph 1, should promptly follow the procedures prescribed by the NII.

Article 4 (Administration of OpenIdP, etc.)

  1. The NII will issue one OpenIdP account to be used privately by a user, who has registered according to Article 3, and notify the user of its issuance in a prescribed method. The OpenIdP account, which has been issued and notified according to this paragraph, shall be referred to as "Private OpenIdP Account" hereinafter.
  2. In the event that the Registration Information is proved to include false information after the account has been issued and notified according to the previous paragraph, the NII can apply Article 3, paragraph 2, and suspend the OpenIdP User from using the Private OpenIdP Account immediately without being held responsible.
  3. OpenIdP User must take full responsibility of all that has to do with the administration and usage of the Private OpenIdP Account.
  4. OpenIdP User must not disclose, allow the use of, lend, transfer, or trade the Private OpenIdP Account to others.
  5. The NII will not be liable for any damages caused by an OpenIdP User's malpractice in administrating and using a Private OpenIdP Account, or any damages caused by a third party's usage of the Private OpenIdP Account.

Article 5 (Provision of the Services)

  1. The content of the Services shall be the ones that are reasonably available to the NII at the time of provision.
  2. The NII can restrict Third-party Sites that can be logged-in by using the Services at its own discretion.
  3. The NII can entrust a third party to execute all or part of the affairs related to the operation and provision of the Services on its own responsibility.
  4. The NII can modify, add or abolish all or part of the Services by giving OpenIdP users notice at a given time in a prescribed method.
  5. The NII shall not be held responsible for any modification, addition or abolishment of all or part of the Services that were conducted according to Article 5, paragraph 4.

Article 6 (Temporary Discontinuance)

  1. In the event that facilities or circuits used for the provision of the Services require maintenance, or unavoidable situations such as natural disasters or any other reasons arise, the NII can cancel or discontinue the operation and provision of the Services without being held responsible.
  2. The NII will notify OpenIdP Users before cancelling or discontinuing the operation or provision of the Services according to the previous paragraph. This, however, shall not apply to the cases where there is some emergency and unavoidable reason.

Article 7 (Precaution on Use of OpenIdP)

When logging-in to a Third-party Site using the Services, it is an OpenIdP User's own responsibility to take enough precautions so that information such as other IDs are not entered in to a Third-party Site's authentication screen by mistake.

Article 8 (Use of the Usage Information etc. of the Services)

  1. When an OpenIdP User tries to log-in to a Third-part Site using a Private OpenIdP Account, and the Third-party Site's operator etc. requests authentication necessary to allow the log-in, the NII can inform the Third-party Site of the required authentication results in a prescribed method.
  2. The NII can use the information associated with an OpenIdP User's usage of the Services, such as the Third-party Site to which the OpenIdP User logged-in or tried to log-in, initiation time of the login, presence or absence of the notification of authentication results of the login from the NII to the Third-party Site, or any other information of the OpenIdP User's usage of the Service (all of which will be referred to as the "Usage Information" hereinafter) in a way prescribed below:
    1. The NII can use the Usage Information at its own discretion in order to provide support related to the Services that may be provided to OpenIdP Users
    2. For the improvement of services etc by the NII or third party partners or for marketing activities, the NII can use the Usage Information by itself, or disclose or provide it to third party partners (the Usage Information will be modified so that an OpenIdP Users will not be identified or specified before the NII discloses or provides it to third party partners)
  3. For the purpose of delegating the execution of the affaires prescribed in the previous paragraph, the NII can entrust contractors, who are obliged by contract etc. to administer the Usage Information appropriately, to handle the Usage Information of the relevant OpenIdP Users.

Article 9 (Personal Information, etc.)

  1. Complying with laws and regulations or warrants and other decisions by court, the NII can disclose OpenIdP Users' personal information obtained through the provision of the Services to a third party.
  2. The Services' Privacy Policy will be applied to OpenIdP Users' personal information in relation to paragraph 1.

Article 10 (Disclaimer, etc.)

  1. The Third-party Site, which was logged-in to using the Services, operates at the discretion of its own operator etc. Therefore, the NII does not provide any warranties for the Third-party Site concerned. These include warranties of completeness, utility, validity or legitimacy of services provided by the Third-party Site, or warranty of fitness for an OpenIdP User's usage purpose, and warranty of safety of the Third-party Site concerned.
  2. An OpenIdP User shall choose and use a Third-party Site, which can be logged-in to using the Services, at her/his own risk and discretion. Therefore, the NII shall not respond to any complaints or inquiries from the OpenIdP User regarding the Third-party Site. Also, the NII will not be liable for any damages to the OpenIdP User or to a third party that may have arisen from choosing or using the Third-party Site concerned.
  3. In the event that any disputes occur between the operator etc of a Third-party Site (including a third party who provides contents to the Third-party Site concerned) and an OpenIdP User or the NII arising from the OpenIdP User's use of the Third-party Site, the OpenIdP User must resolve any disputes on her/his own responsibility and at her/his own expense, and try not to cause any damages or inconveniences to the NII.
  4. When an OpenIdP User tries to log-in to a Third-part Site using a Private OpenIdP Account, the Third-party Site requests the NII to authenticate the log-in. Even when the Services notify the Third-party Site of the successful authentication, the OpenIdP User may not be able to log-in to the Third-party Site concerned depending on the circumstances of the Third-party Site or its operator. In that event, the NII shall not be held responsible for the failed log-in of the OpenIdP user.

Article 11 (Termination of the Use etc.)

  1. If an OpenIdP User falls under any of the following, the NII can terminate the use of the Services by the OpenIdP User without being held responsible:
    1. Any case that an OpenIdP User was issued an account by using other person's email address, or used the OpenIdP account that was issued in such way
    2. Any case that an OpenIdP user used the Private OpenIdP Account improperly
    3. Any case that an OpenIdP User violates any of the articles in the Terms
    4. Any case that an OpenIdP User is proven to infringe the Terms of Use of a Third-party Site that was logged-in and used by using the Services
  2. The NII will notify OpenIdP Users before terminating the use of the Services according to the previous paragraph. This, however, shall not apply to the cases where there is some emergency and unavoidable reason.

Article 12 (No Warranties, etc.)

  1. The NII does not provide any warranties for the Services or the use of the Services including warranties of completeness, utility, or validity of the Services, or warranty of fitness for an OpenIdP User's usage purpose.
  2. In cases where the NII is liable to compensate damages related to the Services to an OpenIdP User, and except in cases where there was intent or gross negligence on the part of the NII, the extent of limitation of liability will only be in the case that any liability is found attributable to the NII and within a limit of direct and general damages actually incurred to the OpenIdP User. The NII will not be liable for any lost earnings of OpenIdP Users, any damages arising out of exceptional circumstances (including cases in which the NII foresaw or was foreseeable to the NII when damages occurred), and any damages based on a claim for damage by a third party against the OpenIdP User. The liability will not exceed the amount that is reasonably assessed as being equivalent to the usage fee of the Services in any case except where there was an intent or gross negligence on the part of the NII.

Article 13 (Consultation)

Items that are not prescribed in the Terms shall be resolved through consultation based on the principle of faith and trust.
